During the mid 1800's, this area was the site of a Hudson's Bay Company store and Frank Richter, who's homestead was the first in the area. The community was later named for R.L. Cawston, a pioneer rancher and magistrate.

Location: Located on Highway 3 just southeast of Keremeos.

Population: 845

Keremeos is an Interior Indian word with three meanings: "wind channel in the mountains", "land cut in the middle" and/or "where the creek sinks away". The area attracts a variety of visitors including those interested in history, rocks, hiking and sun-worshipping. The nearby waterways attract avid anglers and canoeists. Visit galleries and shops, fruitstands and orchards to sample the area's freshest produce. Tour wineries, the historic Keremeos Grist Mill, museums or the basalt rock columns.

Location: On Highway 3 between Hedley and the Highway 97 junction.

Hedley

The community of Hedley lies in the valley of 20 Mile Creek and was named after a man who had grubstaked many of the prospectors in the times when Hedley prospered in the mining industry. The rock cliffs to the west of town give visitors a chance to view the folded rock strata, the openings of mining shafts and mine buildings. Services available include a service station, stores, restaurants, accommodation and private campgrounds.

Location: Hedley is located on Highway 3, approximately half an hour from Princeton.
