Our
two-bedroom and one-bedroom cedar cottages at Mills Landing in Bamfield have a full kitchens with everything
you need for cooking, fireplace in the living room,
BBQ on the deck overlooking the ocean, and one of the
best features -- unobstructed ocean views. All linens
and towels are provided, and our staff can help with
food preparation, special requests, etc
we aim
to please. You can also enjoy the fire-pit, horseshoe
pit, and a picnic table on the lawn at the front of
the property beside the ocean.
On
our offshore charters we fish along the outer banks
off the west coast of Vancouver Island. These waters
are prime feeding grounds for Halibut, Chinook and Coho.
Chinook are over 30lbs by June with Halibut going over
100lbs every year.
On
our inshore charters we fish the islands, walls and
rock piles in and around Barkley Sound. These areas
hold big fish, and offer incredible scenery. We have
two guides boats, a 24ft Grady White and a 22ft custom
aluminum, all decked out with top line equipment and
fishing gear. We also have a 22ft aluminum boat that
can rent out to folks who want a great boat to fish
out of without a guide. Guests can pack their catch
in our commercial vacuum sealer and keep all their fish
cold on saltwater ice. We have our own saltwater ice
plant and make 2000lbs a day right on site!
Barkley Sound is a playground for anyone interested in the outdoors
-- and most guests say they don't have enough time to
do everything. There's lots of great hikes including
a 20 min walk to Brady's Beach and 4-hour day hikes.
The West Coast Trail was originally carved through the
forest in 1890 as a telegraph route connecting Cape Beale (the first lighthouse on Vancouver Island) through
to Victoria. The West Coast Trail is Vancouver Island's
most famous hike, and one of the top 10 in North America.
There are also several beaches and some great tide pools
to discover, old-growth trees to marvel at, and of course
the charming town of Bamfield to explore by sea-side
boardwalk.
For
those who want to get out on the water and see the marine
life of BC's west coast, we offer trips to the Broken
Islands, and whale watching tours, with our resident
marine biologist. Each year more than 20,000 gray whales
migrate past Barkley Sound, so come and watch these
magnificent giants as they feed, dive and play. Killer
whales, humpback whales, seals, and porpoises can also
be spotted in Barkley Sound. If you'd like to try your
hand at fishing, setting prawn traps, or maybe going
ashore and exploring, just let us know!
The
owner of Mills Landing is a professional marine biologist
and can take you on journey of discovery to explore
the islands and beaches of Pacific Rim National Park.
From the surf-pounded outer coastline, to the protected
coves and sandy beaches of the inner islands, this majestic
unspoiled area is home to sea lions, whales, porpoises,
eagles, seabirds, and plenty of amazing marine life.
