Welcome
to Kayak British Columbia, Coastal Spirits Expeditions and Lodge
on beautiful Quadra Island, BC.
We offer some of the finest guided sea kayaking tours and whale
watching tours in British Columbia, including kayaking with Orcas
(killer whales), Desolation Sound and the Discovery Islands.
Our
4 day kayak with the Orcas (killer whales) tour in Johnstone Strait
is a trip different from any other Orca trip available. We are the
only company operating a base camp right beside the famous killer
whale reserve and Orca rubbing beaches. Due to this perfect location,
we have the highest success rate encountering the whales in their
natural environment. Our small groups can watch them feeding, playing
and in social interaction with other pod members. We listen to the
whale songs with our hydrophones. Often the whales approach our
kayaks and our campsite. Unlike other BC companies we avoid the
tourism crowds of North Vancouver Island and enjoy privacy and the
best Orca viewing camps in the world. High speed catamaran transport
to Orca base camp is included in the tour.
Spectacular
views, close wildlife encounters, emerald lagoons: The Discovery Islands offer some of the best sea kayaking tours in British Columbia,
Canada. The Islands and the surrounding crystal clear ocean are
the home of sea lions, seals, dolphins, colorful birds and the largest
starfish and clams of the world. Ancient trees along our shore lines
provide nesting habitat for more than 200 Bald Eagles.
We
also invite you to join us for sea kayaking amidst the unparalleled
beauty of British Columbia's Coast Mountain Fjords. We watch cascading
waterfalls plummet into the emerald, glacier fed water of Fjordlands.
Enjoy the islets along the way and meet the animal residents of
Fjordlands, including Bears that can often be viewed from the safety
of our kayak. There are limited campsites, and spectacular landscapes
in a remote area of the British Columbia coast.
Highlights
of your BC Orca tours include:
World class, very private Orca watching campsite, beside
the killer whale reserve.
Night paddling (for guests who like to participate) to watch
spectacular phosphorescent algae. The ocean looks like the sky full
of stars. Hear the whales breathing at night.

in the evenings
Beautiful fresh water stream beside the camp, great for swimming
Guided interpretive rain forest walks from camp
Visit of Orca research station (weather and ocean conditions
permitting)
Delicious meals and a million dollar view
Outhouse and solar showers available
Underwater microphones to listen to the songs of the whales.
High speed catamaran transport Campbell River/Quadra Island
to base camp
The
Coastal Spirits Lodge and Bed and Breakfast is located on a beautiful,
very quiet and private 5 acre rain forest property in short walking
distance to the beach, from where you enjoy stunning views towards
ocean, islands and BC's Coast Mountains. Water gardens, streams,
beautiful flowers and ancient trees highlight the property. In this
Bed and Breakfast, you will have privacy and comfort in a separate
new building. Modern units, each have private bathrooms, fridges
and showers. The quiet and beautiful location, the privacy and our
friendly staff makes this lodge an excellent choice in accommodation.
Some
Quotes from our Clients:
Your
Orca trip made me forget the "real world". Being woken
up in the morning by the blow of Orcas is a wonderful experience.
We had about 30 whales right in front of our beautiful camp site.
After years of whale watching and writing about the whales, this
was the best trip I ever had. Thank you!

Our
sea kayak expedition was a truly magical experience. We especially
enjoyed watching the bald eagles, while the eagles watched us. The
huge purple starfish were incredible. We greatly appreciated your
respect for the traditions of the Native People of Quadra Island,
and your knowledge of them was quite illuminating. We felt very
well taken care of throughout our stay.

Our
experience on Quadra Island was wonderful. You truly live in a beautiful
place. The sea kayaking was great - a fantastic way to see close-up
what the island has to offer. We are anxiously awaiting the return
of the bald eagles here in Kansas, and will fantasize that they
are the same eagles we saw in British Columbia. We have been encouraging
everyone we know to consider a trip to your part of the world. We
too, intend to return. Thanks again for the wonderful time.
