CLEARWATER RIVER CHALET
Clearwater River
Chalet is a handcrafted, log cabin built in 1991 by Anne and Roland Neave.
Building it in a roadless area was a challenge, but they were determined to
preserve the pristine setting by the river. The solution was a helicopter which
carried and placed all the logs and lifted the furnishings to the site.
To reach the Chalet, guests drive 2 km along a private gated
road off the Wells Gray Park road, then there is a 30-minute hike along a scenic trail
which descends 125metres (425 feet) to the Clearwater River. Detailed
directions are supplied with the confirmed reservation. To ensure privacy
and solitude for each party, the Chalet is never rented on a share basis, so
each group of up to 8 persons has exclusive use of the Chalet and unrestricted
access to the 120
hectares (300 acres) of private property surrounding it. There are no staff at
the Chalet except a custodian who does cleaning and maintenance between parties,
so you are on your own for the duration of your stay.
FACILITIES: Clearwater River
Chalet is a 2-room log cabin consisting of living room/kitchen and bedroom, plus
a deck overlooking the river. The Chalet is fully furnished with dining table, 8
chairs and 2 sofas. The kitchen is equipped with a 3-burner propane stove, a
small microwave, an 8 cubic foot refrigerator, dishes and utensils for 8
persons, cooking equipment, pots, frying pans and sink. Solar panels provide
limited electricity for lighting and there is a 120-volt AC plug which can
handle items that draw no more than 800 watts (your camera charger will work,
but not your hair dryer). Water is carried from
the river which is only 30 metres (100 feet) distant. The bedroom has 4 upper
and lower bunks, each with a foam mattress. Bathroom facilities are outdoors and
consist of outhouse and shower house with solar shower. You need to bring only
your food, sleeping bag and personal items.

LOCATION: Clearwater River
Chalet is a 6-hour drive from Vancouver via the Coquihalla and Yellowhead
Highways or a 4-hour drive from Jasper via the Yellowhead Highway. The nearest
airport is at Kamloops, 150 km south, and rental cars are available there. When planning your arrival, please be sure to
allow enough daylight time for the hike to the Chalet.
